Suppressions

Suppressions prevent email from being sent to addresses that should no longer receive mail. They are evaluated separately from segments and topic preferences, so a contact can be selected for an audience and still be excluded from delivery.

Suppression origins

Dugble tracks why an address is suppressed. The current origins are:

• bounce — the address was suppressed after a delivery failure.
• complaint — the address was suppressed after a complaint signal.
• manual — the address was added directly by your team.

Suppressions override targeting

Segments answer who you want to target. Topics and subscriptions answer what a contact wants to receive. Suppressions answer whether an email address should be attempted at all. Because of that, suppression status can make a recipient ineligible even when segment membership and topic preference would otherwise allow the message.

Suppression and unsubscribe are different

A contact’s unsubscribed state is a recipient preference stored on the contact. A suppression is a delivery restriction associated with the email address. Treat them as separate signals and preserve both when they are relevant to your application.
